Upgrade Paths:
QuickBBS v2.80 Gamma 2, 3, 4, 5, or ZETA-1 TO Zeta-2.
1) Replace the Executables & OVR files.
2) Run NODECFG:
a) If you are running Multinode, you will need
to run NODECFG in each node's subdirectory.
+ Once you have done this, you will be able
to REMOVE the QUICKCFG.DAT file from *THAT*
node's subdirectory.
(NOTE: If you REMOVE the QUICKCFG.DAT file
from that directory, QUICKBBS will use the
QUICKCFG.DAT file from your MAIN QUICKBBS
directory (IE \quickbbs\) ).
b) If you NOT are running multinode, Just Run NODECFG
in your MAIN QUICKBBS directory (IE \quickbbs\)
and *LEAVE* the QUICKCFG.DAT file in that
directory.
3) Run USR280GA.EXE in your MESSAGE BASE directory.
(This will prepare your USERS.* file for GUEST use)
4) Run Qconfig to Upgrade the Language Files.
5) Check all of your information in QCONFIG, particularly
anything that is NODE Specific. For example,
Modem Command Strings, Baud Rate, and Message Editor
Settings.
Moving from QuickBBS v2.76 TO ZETA-2.
1) Run Limto280.exe in your QuickBBS Main Directory.
(And/or in any node's directory which you wish
to have a different Limit setting) This will
convert your LIMITS.CTL to LIMITS.DAT,
which is editted via QCONFIG.
2) Create your LANGUAGE FILES, by Entering Qconfig,
and editting the language files. The editor should
ask if you wish to create the language files.
3) Run USRTO280 from inside your MESSAGE BASE DIRECTORY.
(Note: USRTO280 will make a backup copy of your old
user file called USERS.276.) If you need to go back
to an earlier version you will NOT be able to change
the new file back - it is IMPOSSIBLE to create a 2.76
USERS.BBS file from the 2.80 model!
On the bright side, the changes to the user file
were made in such a way as to not impair the
functionality of most 2.76 utilities. The one notable
exception is third party user editors, and even
these will *mostly* work but it is important that you
DO NOT USE ANY 2.76 UTILITIES TO CHANGE THE PASSWORD
FIELD! User editors made for 2.76 and earlier versions
should work OK except for the password field, simply
avoid entering anything into there (it will appear as a
blank if you try to look at it).
4) Use the upgrade instructions from Zeta-1 to Zeta-2,
for the rest of the instructions in upgrading your
system.
